Our fascial system functions to provide structure and support to all parts of the body, holding all of our pieces and parts in place, and acts as a shock absorber, allowing our bodies to withstand any force throughout our lives without being injured. Fascia also has a role within our immune system.
Fascia is a three dimensional web of tough connective tissue that runs from the top of our heads to the bottoms of our feet. It does not begin and end at specific locations as we think of with bones and muscles, but rather it is continuous, forming an intricate net within the body. Some areas are denser or thicker than others. Fascia surrounds and infuses every part of the body including the bones, muscles, vessels, spinal cord, internal organs- all the way down to the individual cells. The fascial system can therefore affect every system and function in the body.
